Australian Labor – Let’s move Australia forward, a slogan, one of the many we’re being bombarded with by both the current Government and the Opposition in the race to the Federal Election in August. A six week race full of meaningless platitudes, treating voters like imbeciles, rhetoric, and unfounded promises, which, if you consider what democracy means, would only be deliverable if we were electing a dictator, which we’re not.
Interestingly enough the NSW Labor Party’s slogan includes “A New Direction” which I presume must also be forward. The question is; forward to what?
An article in today’s Daily Telegraph entitled Kristina Keneally’s rail land grab gives a stark indication of what the reality of life under the Labor Party of Australia is like. As far as I’m concerned Federal Labour, State Labour, it’s the same bunch of vipers running the show. When you read the article you see that people are being removed from their land without choice, paid a pittance in terms of the real value of the land acquired, and then the NSW Labor Government intends to sell off any excess land to developers.
Given the history of the NSW Government under The Labor Party does anything smell fishy here?
The fact that this land grab is actually happening right now is made even more questionable in terms of Kristina Keneally’s earlier comments (March 12 2010) reported here.
“Compulsory acquisition might be part of the future,” she told Sky News.
“We won’t rule that in or out. But it would have to be done with appropriate guidelines, appropriate safeguards, appropriate rules around it.”
I don’t know about you but I’m looking for truth, integrity, and strong, committed, leadership from politicians – wishful thinking I know – so, if you are taxing me in any way, if you are taking two days pay of the five days a week I work, then you’d better act with integrity and in congruence with the message under which you were elected.
The point of all this is that I can’t make any distinction between State and Federal Labor, in fact is so much easier to see similarities. When I consider what it means to Move Australia Forward with Labor I can only determine what that means by looking back into the very recent past. Sorry, that seems like a direction I’d rather not take.

Hi Damian. Thank you. Its very hard for the landowners. And the act which Labour used to acquire is Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
It states:
9 Power to acquire land etc
(1) The corporation may, for the purposes of this Act or pursuant to any function conferred or imposed on the Minister or the Director-General by any environmental planning instrument, acquire land by agreement or by compulsory process in accordance with the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991.
a) any land to which an environmental planning instrument applies and which the Minister considers should be made available in the public interest for any purpose,
(b) any land of which that proposed to be acquired under this Part forms part, or
(c) any land adjoining or in the vicinity of any land proposed to be acquired under this Part.
How many properties will follow?

No-one can enter your property without your permission. Signs cost $30 each plus postage–cannot produce them any cheaper.
Francis, I'm sorry to hear that, it makes me feel quite helpless to know that this can happen in our country, and by people we're supposed to trust.
On the 23rd of July the Labour Communist Government compulsorily aquired 12 properties, land, homes of people who have worked all their lives, on farms doing 2 jobs to have a superannuation. This was STOLEN away from workers and their children, and now we have to fight in courts to get proper compensation for what is rightfully ours.
Which way are we heading? I think we are moving back!!!!

You are right! As far as I'm concerned it's our responsibility to ensure the government doesn't get their way…unless of course it's something we all want. In my humble opinion there's a total disconnect between what we get from government and what we want, the fact that we have dominant political parties entrenched in every level of government from local councils through to federal is simply a recipe for cronyism, nepotism and outright corruption.
The “system” as we know it today, exacerbated by the fact that the news media has become part of the problem, has lost track of the fact that, as a public service, funded by us and our labor, works for us, their employer.
What can we do about it? Frankly I don't know, but we can speak up, refuse to accept the status quo, question everything, and attempt to hold these public servants accountable…which is, for the moment at least, our right.
Damien, I went into the link “about Damien Saunders” and you write “I live in a pristine marine paradise' and I have no doubt you would like the choice to pass this on to your children one day. If the government gets their way, the choice may never be yours.
The great Australian dream of owning your own home………….with this government it could never be, you would only be minding it 'till they think its time to take over. And, dont think this really only applies to people in rural areas with bigger blocks of land that can be developed, it could just as easily happen in suburbia.
The people of Australia need to open their eyes and read the fine print before its too late. This government is leading us to a “soviet style” of leadership. What will be on their next agenda, legislation on who can and cannot vote?

Every Australian should be vigilant and be supportive of those landowners being compulsorily acquired by the Labor State Government as we speak, and we believe on selling the land to Developers. Everyone must understand they are picking us off one at a time. Stand up to this evil or you could be next and there may be no one to stand up to support you. Our property rights have been violated. Judging from just this one document below, this is just the start of the acquiring the people's land in this most disgusting manner.

it states “….Site amalgamation Thirdly, the Property Council is concerned that fractured land ownerships, particularly in the north west sector and around the proposed Leppington town centre in the south west sector, will make site amalgamation difficult, will slow development and decrease affordability. There are several thousand small lots in the south-west sector alone. A process for compulsory acquisition, if necessary, and which is fair, reasonable and transparent, should be clearly spelt out for industry, landowners and residents.” ….
“Leppington town centre – In terms of retail, the south west sector will have a major town centre in Leppington, with smaller town centres in other suburbs, with Oran Park, Catherine Fields North and Catherine Fields, expected to be the next largest. The Leppington town centre is located strategically between several major road links and a heavy rail spur link to Glenfield.
However, concerns have been raised with the Property Council about the viability of the proposed town centre at Leppington in the south-west sector. Over 200 smaller lots will need to be amalgamated to provide the land required to construct the town centre. This will take some time given the difficulties associated with amalgamation, and also the imposition of the levies required for development.
For these areas to be successful, they must have jobs led growth.
The town centre should be a catalyst for development of each sector, but if the
viability is not sound, overall growth and development will be slow and curtailed.
The planning here needs to be carefully reviewed. As noted, a role for Landcom in site amalgamation, and the GCC in amalgamations and compulsory acquisition in critical areas should be considered by Government.” ……….
I ask you Is this the plan they have for all land owners that the Government/ developers have their sites on. People need to know what they have planned for us they dont care about the disruption to our lives, just how they can get their hands on our land for the least amount of money. We understand Francis because what you are stating is the truth. Our good friend in his 80's was half way through a Residential Sub Division in Hinchinbrook NSW when he had to stop because the M7 was required to go through the second stage of his land developement and it was Zoned for this purpose. He simply asked for the same value from the RTA State Government that the developer was prepared to pay. No,
the RTA refused and offered him under compulsory Acquistion $90 thousand per acre against some $400 thousand from the developer. He was forced into the Land and Enviroment Court and lost. Why, Liverpool Council of course just before the Oasis Affair surfaced LOST paperwork. How many other innocent people have been caught up with Local Councils of ill reput and criminal State Government. The RTA saw an opportunity and grabbed it. Information that was needed suddenly DISAPPEARED and not bought up in the Court Case. This State Government must be stopped and all the Australian people MUST unite and bring these thieves to PUBLIC ATTENTION. The RTA also wanted all of this man's land not what they required for the roadway. The remainder of his land was made into a Retention Basin for the M7 water run off. The Developers of the M7 got it for free from this old man but did they pay the RTA for it? We are happy to name names as this was the worst miscarriage of justice we have ever seen. But we are sure there are more plenty more. Time for JUSTICE to prevail and these people compensation for the State Govenment's criminal actions. These Departments all have ABN's so can we charge them with a criminal offence of fraud and theft? Anyone out there that can help we will put the money up to get the right answer.
You are right Damian. Im one of the many landowners affected with this land grab. We dont want to stop the development of the South West Rail Link. We have begged the Government to give us proper compensation or just take the corridor and leave us the excess land but they make excuses, they need it for construction, we have a land lock any excuse under the sun.
The land is only required to stockpile dirt and sand and we have managed to get our hands on a concept master plan for the proposed Leppington Town centre and it shows there is a road along the rail corridor ( after being told there wasnt one) so we wont have a land lock.
Residents have told the different Government departments they could use the land for free for as long as they like and then when the project is built clean it up and the land is ours.
Residents here have worked long hours to get ahead in life. from sun up to sunset and then the Labour government can come along and steal the properties from under us. The land will be rezoned in 2012 The future zonings are commercial and high density( 6 story) The Leppington Town centre will be as big as Burwood. The government will benefit, this is our super our childrens and grandchildrens inheritance.
Its my property today..how many more within the Metrostrategy will be aquired. When you shoot 1 down cheap then the rest follow as it sets a precident. The Labour Government are blaming the opposition for the Legislation but its the Labour Party who is usuing the Legislation the wrong way as the Just terms Compensation Act states you should not be worse off.
